Entrance & Exit Loan Counseling

Entrance Counseling

Before receiving a student loan, borrowers must complete a Direct Loan Servicing Online entrance counseling session. The Direct Loan Servicing Online interactive counseling session provides tips and tools to help develop a budget and manage loan responsibilities and other educational expenses.

Exit Counseling

If the student has borrowed a William D. Ford Direct Loan, including the Federal Direct Stafford Loans:

  • The student must attend a Direct Loan Servicing Online exit counseling session
  • In the interview, the student must be prepared to list the following information:
    1. Borrower's drivers license number
    2. Permanent address and telephone number
    3. Name, address and telephone number of next of kin
    4. Name, address and telephone number of two references
    5. Name, address and telephone number of expected employer
  • If there are questions or the student is unable to complete an online exit interview, contact the Financial Aid Office at (515) 294-2223

If the student has borrowed a Loans Receivable Loan, including the Disadvantaged Student Loan, Federal Perkins Loan, or Health Profession Student Loan:

  • The student will be required to complete an on-line loan exit interview with the Iowa State Univeristy billing servicer, UAS
  • A hold will be placed on the student's records until the exit counseling session has been completed

If the student has received a University Long Term Loan:

  • The student will receive an exit interview packet in the mail that needs to be completed and returned
  • A hold will be placed on the student's records until the exit counseling session has been completed
