Office of Student Financial Aid

Student Aid Report (SAR)

After filing the FAFSA, a Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to the student and to the student's chosen schools. This report contains a figure known as the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which determines the student's financial need.

Retrieving the SAR

The SAR may be available within 1 week after filing the FAFSA and signing electronically with a Department of Education PIN, or within 2-3 weeks after signing and mailing a paper signature.

Electronic:

  1. Visit http://www.fafsa.gov/.
  2. Click on "View and Print Your Student Aid Report".
  3. Choose the year for which the FAFSA was filed.
  4. Enter the required information, including a Department of Education PIN.
  5. Print the SAR for personal records, and store in a safe place.

Paper:

Approximately 2-3 weeks after the paper FAFSA has been signed and mailed, the Student Aid Report will be mailed to the student.
