Academic Progress
Federal regulations require the Office of Student Financial Aid to monitor
the academic progress of students receiving financial aid. Listed below
are three of the primary circumstances that apply to SAP. (Note: SAP
is strictly a financial aid program. Your academic advisor and/or college
may be monitoring your academic progress as a completely separate process.)
- Failure to meet the minimum Grade-point Average
- Failure to meet minimum Semester Hour requirements
- Exceeding the Duration of Eligibility (many times applies to returning
students earning a 2nd degree or teacher certification

If a student is notified by the Office of Student Financial Aid that
they are on SAP Probation, this is just a warning. No response to the
financial aid office is required at that time.
If a student is notified by the Office of Student Financial Aid that
they are on SAP Suspension, financial aid will not be released for the
next semester until the student meets the criteria. In the case of an
extenuating circumstance, (student illness, family illness, or catastrophic
event) the student can file an appeal.
